MyShopAsia.com
is
an online outlet for retailers and wholesale
buyers for handmade products direct from the
land of Himalayas in Nepal. MyShopAsia.com is
a community based trading stand for individual
entrepreneurs and independent small-scale cottage
industry. MyShopAsia.com, thus, acts as online
sales agent directly from manufacturer.
MyShopAsia.com is a platform for craftsmen who, in spite of their world class craftsmanship, are not recognized in the world market. Their art, which is also their passion, has to go through a long chain of market mechanism. Because of this, these creators fail to get the right value for their creations. MyShopAsia acts as a station that links craftsmen directly to customers. It relives the traditional craftsmen, who, because of their inability to adjust to the modern business environment, are losing in this throat-cut competitive world. Using Informations and Communication Technology as a tool for poverty mitigation, MyShopAsia.com envisages being a trading station for traditional craftsmen.
Since many of our artists are Newar Buddhists from Patan, their religion is reflected in our works. Many of our dharmas products are crafted by Tibetan refugees living in monasteries in Boudha, Swayamhu Nath (monkey temple), and Jawalakhel.

MyShopAsia promotes the handicrafts and artesian of Nepal as well as and local crafts people. Usually, artists learn their art from older members of their family and teach members of the new generation. Faced with limited options due to the low monetary value of their work, many talented artists fade away unnoticed. In view of this, we have decided to provide them with a virtual platform. Since there aren’t many people that the art goes through before it gets to you, most of what you pay for the items goes to the creator(s). The price they receive for their products encourages young members of the artists’ families to do their cultural profession rather than to do something else. We employ workers from a range of social and economic levels, and offer benefits such as health-care and education for their children
Nepali art is hand made and therefore, it is also environmentally friendly. The warmth of something made by hand, is of course, incomparable to that of machine made things which contain little hard work and thought, if any at all.

One needs to consider the enormous number of influencing factors in the present Business world. There are people with MBAs, Doctorate and other specialized degrees, in front of which the artists that inherited art as their culture may seem unqualified. However, we should not forget that the people of this village are doing business depending solely on their passion. Think about what great passion is needed to be as good as people who have studied art. Let us respect his passion. Buying from us is your chance to contribute to make a difference. When you buy from us, remember that you are, in many ways, also helping people better their lives. |

MyShopAsia started out without any planning. Having a hobby of photography on my teen age I had set out for a photography trip around in Nepalese himalaya, small village around the Kathmandu valley with only my camera. This was what I often did to regain fresh motivation from my day to day student and work life. Many weekend I had spend with Khokana, Bungmati and Bhaktapur traditional craftsman. It was great inspiration for me to see how they beautifully crafted on stone, metal, wood without any professional trainning. During this trip, I found out that the so-called remote areas had such gifted individuals. There were people who could craft a piece of wood that was about to decay into lovely mementos; there were people who could mould clay- which most people consider being dirty- into splendid pots. Their creativity had been passed down through generations. Although recently their art does not contribute significantly to their income, it is their culture- an important part of their life. Craftsmanship was a hereditary wealth that they cherished. A lover of traditional art forms myself, I then realized that I could help these people and at the same time, be involved with something I appreciated.
